The Audi Q5 has been a huge success for the German automaker, with the high-performance crossover consistently outperforming everything else at Ingolstadt. Audi Q5 Sportback: For When You Want A Tt But Have Too Many Kids
The all-new cabin will have a bigger screen and more technology than before. It will share the same interior design as the upcoming A4 ande-tron GT and possibly the new China-only Q5 e-tron (pictured above), with a strong focus on futuristic lines, concave touchscreens and luxury trim.
Tech highlights include a large digital instrument cluster, Audi’s third-generation infotainment platform (MIB 3), a head-up display and the Amazon Alexa voice assistant. Driver aids include Level 2 Semi-Autonomous Driving with Dynamic Zone Steering, Fully Adaptive Cruise Control with Speed Plate Control, and Adaptive Suspension.
The Q5 sits on an updated MLB Evo platform shared with the upcoming B10 A4, so 48V mild-mix petrol and diesel engines and plug-in hybrids will run in the same range. The petrol mild hybrid is based on a revised 2.0-litre TFSI and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
Audi Q5 First Drive: Recasting The Lead
The plug-in hybrid combines a 2.0-liter inline-4 with a 141 hp electric motor and an 11.3 kWh lithium-ion battery for a total of 362 hp (266 kW). Unfortunately, watercooler predictions suggest there won’t be an RS Q5 version to compete with the BMW X3 M, with performance duties filled by the reheated SQ5.
