What Is Black Adam? – At today’s Black Adam panel at DC FanDome, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shared our first look at his long-running Black Adam movie, a sequel of sorts to Shazam! of 2019, including his nemesis: the Justice Society.

“Black Adam has been with me for a very long time,” Johnson said, referring to the many years the film has been in pre-production. “One of the main things I’ve always loved about Black Adam is that he was an anti-hero […] I love that he has his own sense of Black Adam’s justice. I also like the fact that his ancestry is a slave […] he felt the burden and pressure of a larger entity that held him down until you couldn’t take it anymore.”

The film will also bring the Justice Society of America to the big screen for the first time, with Noah Centineo’s Atom Smasher embarking on a “journey about what it means to be a superhero. He can see someone like Black Adam who has no other approach,” says the actor.

What Are Black Adam’s Superpowers And Weaknesses In The Rock’s New Movie?

Following his comic book counterpart, the concept art shown during the Black Adam panel states that he was enslaved in the desert nation of Khandak and received the powers of Shazam the Wizard, just like Billy Batson is today. He was then imprisoned for five thousand years, presumably after he absolved the seven deadly sins and nearly destroyed the world, as stated in

Another set of concept images revealed Black Adam battling Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Cyclone, along with Atom Smasher. All of this fits with how Black Adam is portrayed in the comics.

Black Adam, called Tet-Adam, was born in Egypt in the 13th century and as an adult was chosen to receive the power of Shazam, just like Billy Batson today. That makes him strong enough to take on Superman (who The Rock himself teased could appear in the film or in the franchise down the road).

But in the modern DC Comics universe, he also had a role as world leader. After being revived/freed in the present day, he returned to Khandak, the fictional Middle Eastern country he once ruled in ancient times. There the descendants of his original subjects received him as a theocratic ruler.

After his family was killed by criminals, Adam inadvertently released the Seven Deadly Sins from prison, killing untold millions. Because of this terrible deed, he was imprisoned by Shazam within the confines of Earth for five thousand years, until he was freed and tried to free Kahndak once more.

Born in the African nation of Kandak around 3000 BC, Tet-Adam grew up in a poor slave family that was constantly tortured by the nation’s leaders who sent him to the mines. Because of the injustices that befell him, Adam developed a hatred for his leaders, but he was always full of courage and courage to deal with situations that required it. Finally, Adam married a woman named Shiruta, who would give birth to a son, Hurut. From an early age, Adam taught his son that the world they live in is dangerous, despite Hurut’s wishes to improve it.

“This world is dangerous. I know you know this. We have to keep our heads down and believe that things will get better in Kandak one day. But that day is not today….”

Tet-Adam went to the village in search of apples one day, until he was interrupted by Hurut, who came running to find a trinket to give his mother Shiruta, while Adam remembered that the return to the mines for him was safety.

Tet-Adam then approached the seller to ask for more than one apple, which he refused, claiming that there was only one apple per worker, so Adam raised an eyebrow in surprise, prompting the seller to agree to give him another apple to give his double work in the mines. Adam took the apple and thanked the seller before leaving with his son, and as they walked, he told him to drop the strainer before anyone saw it.

Adam noticed that his son had heard some gladiators beating citizens, causing Hurut to worry and try to do something about it; however, his father stopped him by grabbing his arm. Adam then knelt down and told him that the world was dangerous and there was nothing they could do about it, but they would hope that one day it would get better, but that day it wouldn’t. Millions of lives have been lost. Entire civilizations have been wiped out of existence.. . That’s why I vowed never to pass on my magic until I found a truly good person. Strong in mind, pure in heart.”

The Wizard took Batson to the Rock of Eternity, and briefly told the story of Tet-Adam’s tragic history, showing Batson a hologram of Tet-Adam’s precious disaster on Earth.

Tet-Adam was initially heroic and brave, which led to his being chosen as the first champion of the wizard Shazam and his brothers. However, he became brutal, vengeful, cold and ruthless after criminals killed his family, causing him to abuse his powers and accidentally unleash the Seven Deadly Sins on his family’s murderers and the rest of the people of Kandak, including the millions killed.
