Star Trails and Aurora Borealis in Alaska! The fun thing about creating time-lapses is that I can use these images for so many things! When creating a time-lapse, I want to make multiple exposures over a long period of time. When I’m done, I can put all the photos together and make a video. Or I can take stills from the series. Or, as in this case, I can take each photo and add them all together! With this I was able to capture the rotation of the Earth in relation to the stars, hence the star “walks”. Also, I managed to capture all the wonderful northern lights! . . . #alaska #alaskalife #alaskaphotography #alaskaadventure #alaskaliving #alaskalove #alaskatravel #discoveralaska # #alaskanorthernlights #northernlights #auroraborealis #aurora #northernlightsphotos #northernlightsalaska #natgeoyourshots #northernrailershots

The Northern Lights Might Be Visible Across The U.s. Tonight — Here’s How To Spot Them

Prince of Wales Island is one of the islands of the Alexander Archipelago in the Alaska Panhandle. It is the fourth largest island in the United States and the 97th largest island in the world. It covers an area of approximately 2,577 square kilometers. The current population is about 5,560 people. Tongass National Forest covers most of the island. Many of the wildlife, such as the Prince of Wales flying squirrel and the Prince of Wales Island ermine, are found nowhere else. El Capitan Pit, at 598 feet, is possibly the deepest vertical shaft in the United States. Prince of Wales Island is the homeland of the indigenous Kagney Haida people. Kaigani is an anglicization of the Tingut word x’aax’ aani, which translates as “Cryapapple country”. The Tingut name for the island is Taan, which means “sea lion”. The island is traditional Tlingit territory. At the end of the 18th century, the Haida migrated to the area. Abandoned Haida villages still bear Tingut names. On September 20, 1793, British naval officer George Vancouver named all the islands in the southern Alexander Archipelago “Prince of Wales Archipelago”, which he suspected was one large island. The name refers to George, Prince of Wales, who would later become King George IV. In 1825, the name “Prince of Wales Island” was used for the largest of the islands of Vancouver Island. Settlers began mining gold, copper and other metals on the island in the late 1800s, as European Americans moved into the area to take advantage of its natural resources. For most of the 20th century, logging was the mainstay of the Prince of Wales economy. Since the end of the 20th century, only a few small-scale locks have remained in operation as a result of the decline of the industry. In 1975, the Point Baker Association and others sued the US Forest Service to stop logging on 400,000 acres in the northern part of the island. 📸 the new times #alaska #canada #haida #bella

The 21 Best Places To See The Northern Lights In Alaska This Winter (2022 2023)

𝗩𝗩𝗩𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗔𝗘𝗔 Unlike the High Arctic, which regularly basks in the aurora borealis, many outdoorsmen are surprised to learn that Juneau receives the aurora borealis. I usually go out five to ten times a year hoping the lights will come on, and actually end up with a night or two of lights actually on. Even if my shooting percentage is low, a night under the northern lights is still a sweet and mysterious moment. This image shows the month of December on the Juneau Calendar 2023. Purchase your favorite calendar at local Juneau stores or markkelley.com. I will be at the Juneau Public Market this weekend November 25-27 at Sentinel Hall. Stop by to say hello and buy your signed calendars. All meals, accommodation and transportation are included in the workshop package. Visit this post or the link in my bio for more info!

On the 5th, I finished the last spring photography workshop in Alaska with a 5 day 4 night trip to the Brooks Range to photograph the Aurora Borealis. Winter In Alaska: Reindeer Sausages And Chasing The Aurora Borealis

After 2 solid weeks of gray skies and rain, we had a break in the weather, I had a sneaking feeling that the light would be good, I was not disappointed.

I took my girlfriend Alice to see the Northern Lights, but she wasn’t interested, so I asked, “Did the Aurora bring you Alice?” (No, I do not have a girlfriend named Alice) This is one of my favorite photos from Fort Yukon! I think it was the night of the 15th, the night of the LAMP rocket launch and also the superfast mega aurora. The aurora borealis were very powerful that evening, and by 11 pm the main Norwegian band had pushed over and almost straight south. Here I look to the west and the northern lights are moving to the left with a small band on the southern horizon. It’s funny because if it was North Dakota, I would be happy with the little green light and say good night, but in Alaska you can be much better, because you expect more than the aurora borealis. I had no standards while I was there – I took every little ribbon, pillar and arch I saw, resulting in 20,000 photos, but I’m not complaining. Yes!
