Make some changes between pages and screens. However, the changes – including the creation of entire characters from scratch – concern a much larger scale. For this reason, I will not go into the detailed differences between the books and the shows. We’ll be here all week! Instead, I’m going to look at this massive structural change to see if Payne and McKay can do it and whether it works or not.

Took place in the second Middle Ages. Much happened during this period, including the rise and fall of the kingdom of Númenor and the Forging of the Great Rings. However, little is described in detail – a brief schedule of these events can be found in Appendix B

. This allowed them to establish the major milestones of Middle-earth in a way that Tolkien couldn’t with the timeline itself. Don’t expect the event to strictly follow the schedule in Appendix B – it certainly will
According to an interview with Vulture, McKay and Payne also searched other Tolkien books for clues about what might have happened during the Second Age. They find some of these clues in the songs the characters sing and the stories they tell each other, which just shows how deeply intertwined all of Tolkien’s mythology is. Viewers will also notice the reference to

Center of the human kingdom of Númenor. He’s very important to Tolkien’s mythos, and based on the trailer, he’ll play a big part in it
I can hear the handshake already. “A new character? But what about the cannon! Think of a cannon!” What I said: Don’t worry. New characters appear in Rings of Power
New characters include Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh), an adventurous Harfoot; Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi), elf and human falling in love; and Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), a shipwrecked sailor. Just because this character is new

For example, Nori is Harfoot, the ancestor of the hobbits. Harfoots is only briefly mentioned in the prologue to
, but McKay and Payne expand on that brief reference by imagining what Harfoot’s life would be like in the Second Age. Hobbits don’t appear in the main Middle-earth show until Bilbo and Frodo arrive on the scene, so the inclusion of Nori and her family still gives us hobbit-like characters. As McKay told Vanity Fair, “really, don’t you feel like you’re in Middle-earth if you don’t have hobbits or something like hobbits there?”
Then take Arondir and Bronwyn. Their characters – and their romantic relationship – are creations for the show, but the human-elf love story has a permanent place in Tolkien’s work. I love Arwen and Aragorn
The Rings Of Power’: All The Tolkien Terminology Explained
. Both of these stories delve into the complexities of a love story between a person who is immortal and someone who will die. The story of Arondir and Bronwyn seems to explore this as well, though that’s not the only focus.
All of this makes these characters do not come out of nowhere. Nori, Arondir, Bronwyn and many other newcomers to Middle-earth are still based on Tolkien’s works. They help fill in the gaps in Tolkien’s timeline and add some fun surprises to the cast, including some familiar faces.

Trilogy, but also different enough that it’s clear there’s room for growth. In addition, the tenacity in the hunt for evil is in line with the heroism and courage of Tolkien’s other great leaders.
The new story also allows us to travel to new places in Middle-earth that we haven’t seen on screen. The plot of Bronwyn and Arondir takes us to the Southlands, Nori to Rhovanion, and the plot involving Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) takes us to the dwarven kingdom of Khazad-dûm at the height of its power. though
Should change the canon so we can explore the place and these characters can meet, I don’t mind. A departure from the source material that deepens our understanding of Tolkien’s vast world is far more exciting than wanting to be careful.

Adaptation is about more than just getting every plot point right. It is about translating and preserving the meaning and spirit of the work from one medium to another.
Keep this fundamental truth in mind, even if it involves large swings and deviates from the source material. The new characters and plot add a thoughtful addition to Tolkien’s writings about the Second Age and fill in the gaps in The Tale of the Years in a way that is both unexpected and entirely deserved. at the end,
