Geomagnetic storm monitoring will take place from August 17 to 19, 2022, due to possible recurrent coronal holes, high-speed jets and coronal mass ejections, according to the Space Weather Prediction Center.
The Space Weather Center also reports Aug. 17 that a returning coronal hole (CH) high speed jet (HSS) is expected to make its first connection to Earth. The resulting enhanced and perturbed solar wind field is considered sufficient for potential G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm conditions. The geomagnetic response is likely to escalate to a G3 (strong) state on Aug. 18, as multiple coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that have left the sun since Aug. 14 reach or approach Earth. Despite the large number of CMEs, most of which are expected to have little or no impact on Earth, at least four CMEs have potential Earth-bound components.
