The most common cause is excessive tea consumption, especially when it’s consumed close to bedtime. Recent research shows that there are other causes. Long-term consumption of tea is shown to lower the chance of suffering from acute insomnia.
Researchers from the University of Westlake, China presented the findings in Nature Communications, Monday June 6, 2022. Data show that drinking tea has a correlation with a lower risk of developing digestive disorders due to intestinal flora.
Cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) are closely linked to imbalances in gut microbes, bile acids, and type 2 diabetes.

The study involved 1,809 people living in Guanzhou, South China. It lasted six years. The researchers also recorded eating habits and sleep patterns. Researchers also looked at respondents’ preferences for tea, coffee, fruit drinks and dairy products.
Research has shown that tea drinkers who drank tea for a long time had fewer intestinal microbial disorders as well as bile acid problems. This means that the risk of developing cardiometabolic diseases is lower.

Zheng stated that some of these compounds were reported to affect the composition of the gut microbiota, bile acid metabolism, and improve the brain’s circadian rhythm system.
However, the study could not prove that drinking tea reduces the risk of developing cardiometabolic diseases. It isn’t known which type of tea has the strongest effect on cardiometabolic disease risk.
Zheng stated, “The next step will be to conduct genetic research about the causal link between drinking Tea and a lower risk of developing Cardiometabolic Disease.”

This study does not prove that drinking tea can cure insomnia. Tea can only be used to treat acute insomnia. He said that drinking tea can have a positive effect on our gut ecosystem.
Researchers from Tianjin Medical School in China discovered that tea consumption has a significant impact on dementia risk. The study’s results were published in PLOS Medicine, November 16, 2021.
